President calls for strengthening naval power to safeguard national maritime interests

President Droupadi Murmu today emphasized that the changing global geopolitical and security landscape requires strengthening naval power to safeguard national maritime interests. The President made this remark while attending the Day at Sea in Goa. In her address, the President highlighted that with a coastline over 7,500 kilometres long, India’s maritime geography presents several opportunities for economic growth, regional connectivity, and strategic influence. President Murmu said that the country has huge maritime potential that should be leveraged in its journey to becoming a developed nation. The President also noted that India has a rich maritime history spanning several thousand years and is blessed with a favourable maritime geography.

During her Day at Sea aboard INS Vikrant, the President witnessed several naval operations, including MiG-29K take-offs and landings, missile firing drills from warships, and submarine operations.
