Poster Exhibition Highlights New Criminal Laws in India at Pondicherry University

The School of Law, Pondicherry University in collaboration with Ananda Rangapillai Library, Pondicherry University, organized recently a 2-Day Poster Exhibition dedicated to shedding light on the New Criminal Laws in India. The new laws are Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam. The event aimed to familiarize attendees with the impending legal reforms set to take effect on July 1, 2024.

 

Dr. Ajit Kumar Singla, IPS, Inspector General of Police, inaugurated the exhibition.  Prof. K. Tharanikkarasu, Vice Chancellor (i/c), Pondicherry University presided. Prof. Victor Anandkumar, Dean (i/c), School of Law; and Dr. M. Vijayakumar, University Librarian;  Prof. Clement S Lourdes, Director, (C & CR); and Dr. Gurminder Kaur, Asst. Prof. & Head (i/c), School of Law were also participated.

 

The event commenced with an introduction by Dr. Shyamtanu Pal, Asst. Prof., School of Law, providing context and importance of this exhibition on the new criminal laws and how these reforms represent a holistic approach to addressing modern challenges, enhancing accountability, and ensuring a safer environment for all citizens. Dr. Singla (IPS), in his inaugural address, highlighted the significance of these legal reforms in addressing contemporary societal challenges.

 

Prof. K. Tharanikkarasu in his presidential address highlighted the paramount importance of the new criminal laws, emphasizing their pivotal role in enhancing the efficiency and fairness of the criminal justice administration. He also delivered as to how these laws will serve as a cornerstone in upholding the principles of justice and ensuring the protection of individual rights within the legal framework.

 

Dr. Singla’s insights into each poster, particularly regarding changes in sections and punishments, facilitated a deeper understanding among students and guests alike. It was a valuable learning experience that provided to participants, empowering them with knowledge crucial for navigating the legal landscape.
