Ponds and river banks cleaned in Terai & Kathmandu valley for Chhath festival; banana worth millions imported from India to Nepa

In Nepal, ponds and river banks in Terai and Kathmandu Valley are being cleaned and specially decorated for the Chhath festival.

In Kathmandu Valley, Kamalpokhari and Gaurighat at River Bagmati are preferred places to perform chhath puja. In Madhesh Pradesh, Ranighat, Nagawapokhari, chhapakaiya Pokhari, Dashrath pokhari and other ponds are popular for people performing chhath puja. This year, the main day of the Chhath festival falls on November 7. The government has also announced a public holiday on the occasion.

Bananas are considered a must-have for the people observing the Chhath festival. Since the local produce is not enough,  Bananas of around 1.7 lakh kilograms worth  1.7 crore Indian Rupees were imported into Nepal through the Raxaul border point. Around 4000 kg of bananas were imported through Bhitta Mod Point in Janakpur during the same period.
