Three candidates are in the fray from this parliamentary constituency. Bharatiya Janata Party nominated the Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, Waterways and Ayush, Sarbananda Sonowal, dropping the sitting MP and Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Rameswar Teli. Mr Sonowal is a Rajya Sabha Member and former Chief Minister of the State. Asom Gana Parishad and United People’s Party Liberals are in alliance with the BJP in the State.
Former All Assam Students Union President and Assam Jatiya Parishad party chief Lurinjyoti Gogoi and nominee of the United Opposition Front, Assam led by Indian National Congress is also contesting from this constituency. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) extended unconditional support to him. Manoj Dhanowar is the Aam Aadmi Party candidate who represents the tea community.

Lurinjyoti Gogoi is going head to head against the heavyweight BJP candidate Sarbananda Sonowal, a Union Minister and former Chief Minister. In this Parliamentary Constituency tea community voters play instrumental roles and since 1971 only one non-tea community candidate, Sarbananda Sonowal won from this constituency in 2004.
