Polling underway smoothly for 5th LAHDC Kargil Election

In Ladakh, after the Abrogation of Article 370, the first election in UT Ladakh, Polling for the 5th LAHDC Kargil Election is underway smoothly. Voting began at 8 in the morning with people waiting in queues since early morning. 40.31 per cent voter turnout was reported till 11 am.

The fate of 87 candidates trying their luck for 26 constituencies will be locked in M2 Type EVM Machines. The election is being conducted at 278 polling stations.  Election Officer Kargil, Additional Deputy Commissioner Ghulam Muhuddin Wani said that Adequate arrangements have been made by the Election Authority to increase the turnout of voters in this election and facilities like Postal Ballot for People above 60 years of age, Disabled Persons and Sick persons as well as rams, wheel Chairs and escort at all the Polling Stations were made in advance.

An elderly Voter Haji Ghulam Mohammad of 90 years after casting his vote at 8 am said that everyone has to take part in this democratic process and is very important for development of the society.

Ishtiyaq Aba a first time voter said that he is very happy to cast his vote for the first time and feeling proud to became a responsible citizen of the country by casting his vote.
