Voting has begun for bypolls to seven Assembly constituencies spread over six States. Voting, which began at 7 this morning, will conclude at 6 pm. Bypolls are being held in Assembly constituencies of Ghosi in Uttar Pradesh, Bageshwar in Uttarakhand, Puthupally in Kerala, Dhanpur and Boxanagar in Tripura, Dhupguri in West Bengal and Dumri in Jharkhand. Counting of votes will take place on 8th of this month.
In Uttar Pradesh, polling started for the by election on the Ghosi assembly constituency of Mau district at 7:00 a.m. this morning amid tight security. Voting on the 455 polling booths will continue till 6:00 p.m. in the evening. Election Commission has made elaborate security arrangements for the free and peaceful elections. A Total of 10 candidates are in the fray and around 4.30 lakh votors will decide their political fate today. The main contest is between BJP candidate Dara Singh Chauhan who won this seat in previous assembly elections in 2022 on Samajwadi party ticket. Later he resigned from the seat and joined Bhartiya Janata party and now a contestant from the ruling coalition. Samajwadi party has fielded Sudhakar Singh who is also a former MLA from this seat and Congress and left parties are supporting him. Bahujan Samaj Party has not fielded any candidate in the by-election.
Voting begins in the bypoll to Puthupally Assembly constituency in Kottayam, Kerala.Polling began at 7am and will continue till 6 pm today.
7 candidates are in the fray. The main contest is between Chandy Oommen, the UDF candidate, Jake C Thomas, the LDF candidate and Lijin Lal the NDA candidate.The bypoll assumes political significance as it will decide the successor of the former Chief Minister and Congress stalwart Oommen Chandy who had represented the constituency for a record 53 years at a stretch.
One lakh 76,417 voters are there in Pudupally..A total of 182 polling booths are arranged with webcasting facility,of which 10 polling booths will be manned entirely by women. Counting of votes will be held on friday,8 th Sep at Baselios College in Kottayam.
Voting started at 7 am for the by-election of the Bageshwar assembly seat of Uttarakhand today. There are 1 lakh 18 thousand 266 voters in Bageshwar, for whom 172 polling stations have been made. Out of which 15 polling stations are sensitive. Chief Electoral Officer Dr. V. Shanmugam said that five candidates are participating in the by-election, including Parvati Das of BJP, Basant Kumar of Congress, Bhagwati Prasad of SP, Arjun Kumar Dev of Uttarakhand Kranti Dal and Bhagwati Kohli of Uttarakhand Parivartan Party are in the fray. Voting will continue till 5 pm. 1 thousand 444 security personnel have been deployed for peaceful voting.
