Policy of scrapping unfit & polluting vehicles is strictly based on fitness ascertained through automated testing stations, says Govt

The government has denied that it has plans on changing the vehicle scrap age criteria to be based on Kilometers driven rather than the vehicle’s age and the ministry has not issued any guidelines to states regarding the imposition of Green Tax.

In a written reply in Lok Sabha, Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said that the policy of scrapping of unfit and polluting vehicles is strictly based on their fitness ascertained through automated testing stations. He informed that so far 15 states and Union Territories have announced concessions in the motor vehicle tax against the certificate of disposal.
