Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a six-day visit to Nigeria, Brazil, and Guyana from Saturday. Briefing the media in New Delhi this evening, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that Mr Modi will visit Brazil on the 18th and 19th of this month to attend the 19th G20 Summit. He said this will be the Prime Minister’s third official visit to Brazil. Mr Misri mentioned that The Prime Minister visited Brazil in 2014 and then again in 2019 for the BRICS Summit. He added that this particular G20 Summit will also be a special summit because it will be the first time the African Union will take its place in the G20 grouping as a member.
During the summit, the Prime Minister will put forward India’s position on various issues of global importance and build on the outcomes from the G20 New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration and the Voice of the Global South Summits, which were hosted by India in the past two years. On the sidelines of the G20 Summit, the Prime Minister is expected to meet several leaders. Secretary (Economic Relations) in the Ministry of External Affairs, MEA, Dammu Ravi, said the Prime Minister will be making a state visit to Nigeria on the 16th and 17th of November at the invitation of Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Mr Ravi said this will be the first visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the West African region and the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Nigeria in 17 years.
During the visit, the Prime Minister will hold talks to review the strategic partnership between India and Nigeria and discuss further avenues to enhance the bilateral relationship. He will also address a gathering of the Indian community in Nigeria.
Secretary (East) Jaideep Mazumdar said that the Prime Minister will be undertaking a visit to Guyana from the 19th to the 21st of this month at the invitation of Guyanese President Mohamed Irfaan Ali. He added that this is the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to Guyana in more than half a century.
During the visit, the Prime Minister will hold discussions with President Mohamed Irfaan Ali, meet other senior leaders of Guyana, address the Parliament of Guyana, and address a gathering of the Indian diaspora. Mr. Mazumdar said that the Prime Minister will also participate in the Second CARICOM-India Summit and hold meetings with leaders of CARICOM member countries.
