PM Modi meets with Ethiopian counterpart Abiy Ahmed Ali on the sidelines of BRICS Summit

Giving a boost to India-Ethiopia ties, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today held a productive meeting with his Ethiopian counterpart Abiy Ahmed Ali on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Johannesburg.

Mr Modi congratulated Mr Ali on Ethiopia's membership of BRICS. Mr Ali appreciated India's support for Ethiopia to join the BRICS family. Mr Ali felicitated Mr Modi on the success of the Chandrayaan 3 Mission, terming it as a moment of pride and inspiration for Ethiopia and the Global South. MEA Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, discussions covered ways to expand bilateral cooperation in areas like parliamentary contacts, development partnership and capacity building, trade and investment, defence, ICT, agriculture, skilling of youth and people-to-people linkages.

Mr Modi also held a fruitful meeting with Senegal President Macky Sall. The Senegal President congratulated Mr. Modi on the success of the Chandrayaan 3 Mission and said that it is an inspiration for the Global South. He appreciated Mr Modi's leadership in advocating priorities of the developing world. He thanked Mr Modi for India’s efforts for the African Union's (AU) permanent membership of the G20. The two leaders discussed ways to deepen cooperation in areas like trade and investment, defence and security, energy, mining, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, railways, capacity building, culture and people-to-people ties.

Giving a filip to India – Iran civilisational relationship, Mr Modi held a bilateral meeting with Iranian President Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi. Mr Modi felicitated Iran on joining the BRICS family. President Raisi thanked Mr Modi for India’s support in achieving this outcome. President Raisi also congratulated the Prime Minister on the success of the Chandrayaan 3 Mission. The two leaders reviewed bilateral ties including in areas of trade and investment, energy, connectivity, and counter-terrorism. They agreed to fast-track infrastructure cooperation, including the Chabahar project. They also exchanged views on regional developments, including Afghanistan.

Mr Modi met Mozambique President Filipe Nyusi on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Johannesburg. President Nyusi congratulated Mr Modi on the success of the Chandrayaan 3 Mission. President Nyusi also appreciated India's initiative for G20 permanent membership of the AU. The two leaders discussed ways to take forward cooperation on a broad range of areas including parliamentary contacts, defence, counter-terrorism, energy, mining, health, trade and investment, capacity building, maritime cooperation and people-to-people relations.
