Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the loss of lives in drowning incident in Dehgam, Gujarat. Mr Modi has announced an ex-gratia for the victims. In a social media post, Prime Minister said, an ex-gratia of two lakh rupees will be given to the next of kin of each deceased from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. The injured will be given 50 thousand rupees.

Our correspondent reports that eight people drowned while taking a bath in the Meshwo River during the immersion of Ganesha idols yesterday evening. All the deceased were from Vasna Sogthi village in Gandhinagar. A mass funeral procession was held for them in Vasna Sogthi village today. Political leaders, including Dehgam MLA Balrajsinh Chauhan and MP Hasmukh Patel, participated in the funeral procession.
