Voting in four assembly constituencies of Punjab, which have gone for by-poll, is underway peacefully since morning. These constituencies are Barnala, Gidderbaha in Sri Muktsar Sahib, Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur and Chabbewal, a reserved constituency in Hoshiarpur. Nearly 7 lakh voters are using their right to vote.
According to Punjab Chief Electoral Office sources, poll percentage till 11.00 AM, was recorded 20.76 per cent.
The key contestants in the fray are, from BJP, former Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal, Kewal Singh Dhillon, Ravikaran Singh Kahlon and Sohan Singh Thandal. Amrita Warring and Jatinder Kaur from Congress and Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon and Ishank Kumar Chabbewal are AAP candidates.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made. All 831 polling stations are being monitored through CCTV cameras with 100% live webcasting ensuring real-time monitoring. Voting will end at 6.00 PM. Counting of votes will be held on November 23.
The by-polls were necessitated after MLAs representing the constituencies were elected to the Lok Sabha.
