Parliament resumes discussion on General Budget 2024-25

The Lok Sabha today resumed discussion on the General Budget 2024-25. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is expected to reply to the discussion this evening. Participating in the discussion, Devendra Singh of BJP said, this budget will take the country towards inclusive growth. He said the government is committed to the welfare of farmers and major allocations were made in the Union Budget for the agriculture sector. He said the Budget will be instrumental in promoting natural farming across the country. 

 

He said the government has taken several steps to create employment opportunities in the country. Akhilesh Yadav of Samajwadi Party said, this year’s budget is silent about unemployment and development of rural areas. He said, no big announcement was made for any projects in Uttar Pradesh. Mr. Yadav said, the trade deficit is continuously increasing and no concrete steps have been taken to control it.  He added that exports are also witnessing a declining trend.  The discussion is underway.

 

The Rajya Sabha also resumed discussion on the General Budget 2024-25. Participating in the discussion, Praful Patel of NCP said, the government has adopted a fiscal discipline approach and maintained the financial health of the country since 2014. He said, the creation of jobs for the youths is the biggest focus area in this year’s budget. He commended the government for giving weightage to the infrastructure sector in this year’s budget. He said, extensive network of roads, airports, sea ports, and renewable energy have been created in the country in the last ten years. He said, manufacturing activities in the country witnessed tremendous growth in the last couple of years.

 

Echoing the same view, BJP MP Bhubaneswar Kalita said, this year’s budget is focused around poor, farmers, youth, women, middle class and infrastructure development. He lauded the government for taking steps for poverty alleviation saying that 25 crore people have come out from the poverty line. He said, the government is providing free food grains to 80 crore people. The discussion is underway.
