On Day five of the ongoing Paris Paralympics 2024 has begun on a positive note for India as Yogesh Kathuniya clinched silver in men’s discus throw F56 final, taking the country’s overall tally to eight medals.
Earlier, the country’s Para-shuttler Thulasimathi Murugesan assured one more medal. Murugesan reached the finals of Women’s Singles SU5 badminton event, securing her place with a victory over compatriot Manisha Ramadass. The top-seed from Tamil Nadu, triumphed with scores of 23-21, 21-17 in the semifinal yesterday. After this win, Murugesan has guaranteed herself at least a silver medal. She will face China’s Yang Qiuxia in the final.
Following her semifinal defeat, Ramadass will compete for the bronze medal against Denmark’s Cathrine Rosengren. The SU-5 category caters to athletes with impairments affecting the upper limbs, whether in the playing or non-playing hand.
In Para Archery, World No.1 para-archer Rakesh Kumar narrowly missed the bronze medal in the men’s individual compound open. Despite starting with a perfect 30 , he lost to China’s He Zihao by just one point, 147-146.
