On crucial day five of the 2024 Paris Olympics today. Indian pugilist Lovlina Borgohain is through to the quarterfinal of women’s 75 kg boxing. Lavlina won the Round of 16 bout with a unanimous decision, defeating Sunniva Hofstad of Norway. In badminton, both PV Sindhu and Laksha Sen entered the round of 16. PV Sindhu beat Kristin Kuuba 21-5, 21-10 in just 34 minutes. In the Men’s Singles group, Lakshya Sen fought back in the 1st game and comfortably won the 2nd to beat the reigning All England champion Jonathan Christie of Indonesia 21-18, 21-12 to storm into the last 16 in badminton men’s singles at the Porte de la Chapelle arena. 

In shooting, Swapnil Kusale qualified for the final of the men’s 50m rifle 3 Positions event by finishing 7th with a score of 590. Aishwary Pratap failed to make the top-8 cut as he ended up with a score of 589 for the 11th position. Shreyasi Singh and Rajeshwari Kumari, both who scored 68 points on the first day of the women’s trap shooting qualification, will return to action today for the second day of the qualification round. In Equestrian at Château de Versailles in the Dressage Individual Grand Prix, India’s Anush Agarwalla finished 9th with a score of 66.444 in Group E. In table tennis, Sreeja Akula beat Zeng Jian to enter the Round of 16 in the ongoing mega event. Akula lost the first game against the Singapore paddler 11-9 but came back strongly to win the next three games 12-10, 11-4, and 11-5. She will be facing World No. 1 and top-seeded Chinese paddler Sun Yingsha later in the day. In archery, Deepika Kumari Kumari entered into round 16. 
 
 
Meanwhile, in the women’s 54kg round of 16 boxing match, Preeti Pawar lost to Yeni Arias of Colombia in a 3:2 split decision early this morning. So far, India has won two medals, both bronze in shooting. Manu Bhaker won a historic bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol event and then teamed up with Sarabjot Singh to win bronze in the mixed team event.
