Paralympics Games 2024 Badminton: Sukant Kadam, Tarun Dhillon, Lalinakere Yathiraj win their opening matches

In Paralympics Games Paris 2024, Indian badminton players Sukant Kadam and Tarun Dhillon today won their opening match in the SL4 category in the group stage on the opening day. Another shuttler, Suhas Lalinakere Yathiraj, silver medallist in Tokyo 2020, had a mixed day.

 

 
Yathiraj, who is an IAS officer of the 2007 batch of Uttar Pradesh cadre and has served as District Magistrate of Gautam Buddha Nagar; Prayagraj, started the day with a defeat in the Mixed Doubles SL3-SU 5 partnering Palak Kohli. The 41-year-old shuttler then came back a couple of hours later to start his campaign in the men’s singles SL4 on a rousing note, defeating the Indonesian duo Hikmat Ramdani in Group A. Yathiraj is the top seeded in his category.

 

India suffered a setback in the Women’s Singles SL3 category as both Manasi Joshi and Mandeep Kaur lost their opening matches. 

 

 Indian para archers Sheetal Devi today finished second and and Sarita ended at ninth in women’s individual compound open ranking round at Paris Paralympics 2024. Sheetal recorded a new personal best score of 703, finishing a point behind Turkiye’s Oznur Cure Girdi, who set a new world record of 704.

 

Sarita finished with a score of 682.

 
Harvinder Singh, who won an individual bronze medal in men’s recurve open at Tokyo Paralympics, finished ninth in the ranking round in Paris with 637.
