In Mizoram, Palm Sunday, which is known as “Tumkau Ni” in Mizo, was celebrated with religious fervour and enthusiasm. Special church services were held and Palm Sunday processions were taken out in different parts of the state.
Palm Sunday commemorates the triumphal entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem as King of Israel. According to Biblical teaching, Jesus Christ rides into the city on a donkey, while the crowds spread their cloaks and palm branches on the street and shouted “Hosanna to the Son of David” and “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord” to honor him as their long-awaited Messiah and King.
The Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday and ends with Easter Sunday.
Akashvani correspondent reports that Marking the significance of Palm Sunday, a large number of believers took out a procession on the roads across the state chanting “Hosanna”. The Palm Sunday procession, which took place at the early hour of the day with people holding palm leaves signifies the spirit of the Christian faith. Palm Sunday services were held in Churches in all parts of Mizoram.
