The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament today postponed its meeting following a ruckus after Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch did not appear before the committee. The PAC Chairman K C Venugopal told media in New Delhi that the panel had decided to have a suo moto subject for review by the regulatory bodies. He added that the SEBI Chairperson was supposed to appear before the Committee but she informed that she is not in a position to travel to Delhi and in view of her request it was decided to postpone today’s meeting.
Meanwhile, BJP member Ravi Shankar Prasad has alleged that they were not allowed to speak during the meeting. He told the media that they had serious reservations about the procedure adopted in the PAC meeting. He alleged that the way the Chairperson did not allow them to speak and walked away was unparliamentary and politically motivated. He questioned that the PAC’s work is to discuss the report of CAG, but how did Mr Venugopal decide to take a suo moto subject
The Parliamentary Panel had taken a suo motu subject to do a performance review of the regulatory bodies including the SEBI.
