Union Minister of Rural Development Giriraj Singh has informed that over six crore 68 lakh 42 thousand job cards were removed between 2021 and 2023 under Mahatma Gandhi NREGS programme.
 
In his written reply during the Question hour in Lok Sabha on 25th July 2023, the minister noted that these cards were d as they were found fake, and duplicate.
 
The other reasons cited were that the family holding the job card had shifted from the gram panchayat permanently or were not willing to work. Another reason given was that the job card was d after the person expired. The minister has clarified that the job cards were not d due to system error.
