The government today revealed that 2936 persons have lost their lives so far during the current financial year due to natural calamities.
Minister of State for Home, Nityanand Rai, informed this in a written reply in the Lok Sabha. The minister said a maximum of 408 people died in Himachal Pradesh in the natural calamities.
Besides, over 61 thousand cattle were lost, over three lakh and 60 thousand houses were damaged, and crops in over 14 lakh hectares were damaged during the year. A maximum number of one lakh 56 thousand houses were damaged in Assam, while Tamil Nadu witnessed maximum crop damage in over four lakh hectares.
