The Odisha Police have registered a case in connection with the reported suicide of a Nepalese girl student at a private university in Bhubaneswar and have arrested a student from the university in this regard.
Nepal’s Prime Minister, KP Sharma Oli, has expressed concern over the incident, stating that his government is actively engaging through diplomatic channels to address the situation. In a social media post, he noted that the Nepalese Embassy in New Delhi has dispatched two officers to counsel Nepalese students affected by the incident in Odisha.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, has triggered tension on the university campus, with students and student organisations demanding justice for the deceased student.
Meanwhile, the Nepalese Embassy remains in contact with the Indian government and the Odisha Chief Minister’s office in Bhubaneswar, coordinating with authorities on the matter. Arrangements are being made to ensure that Nepalese students can either stay in their hostels or return home, depending on their preferences.
