Odisha going for simultaneous Lok Sabha & Assembly polls in 2024 general elections

Odisha is going for simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly polls in the 2024 general elections. There are a total of 21 Lok Sabha and 147 Assembly constituencies which will go for polls in the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th phase of the ensuing general elections. The Gazette notification for the 4th phase of polls will be issued on 18th of April, followed by 26th of April for 5th, 29th of April for 6th and 7th of May for 7th phase of polls. The polling in Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Berhampur and Koraput Lok Sabha seats will be held in the fourth phase that is 13th of May, followed by Bargarh, Sundargarh, Balangir, Kandhamal and Aska in 5th phase on 20th of May, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Puri and Bhubaneswar in 6th phase on 25th of May and Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur Lok Sabha seats in the 7th phase of elections on 1st of June. The Assembly constituencies coming under respective Lok Sabha constituencies will also go for voting simultaneously along with the Lok Sabha polling.
The Election Commission of India has made all preparations for the simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Odisha. A total of about 3 crore 35 lakh voters have been registered for the ensuing elections who will cast their votes in 37,809 booths across the state. The Chief Electoral Officer of Odisha had a meeting with representatives of recognized political parties for a free and fair election in the state.
There will be a triangular contest this time among Biju Janata Dal, Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress party. So far only BJP has declared the name of candidates for 18 of the 21 Lok Sabha seats, while BJD and Congress are expected to come up with their nominees shortly.
