In Odisha, a curfew has been clamped in Balasore town following clashes between two groups. The police said the clashes took place yesterday over allegations of cow slaughter during a religious celebration of a minority community. Curfew has been clamped since last midnight and will continue till midnight today. The administration has also suspended internet service in certain sensitive areas of the town and urged people to stay in their homes and not to step out.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi spoke to the Balasore district collector and asked him to take immediate measures to bring the situation under control.
According to police, the situation is getting under control, though some sporadic violence was reported in some places. The police have detained 34 persons so far allegedly involved in the clashes.
