Odia Cinema Icon Uttam Mohanty Passes Away, Last Rites with State Honours Today

The last rites of legendary Odia film actor Uttam Mohanty were held in Bhubaneswar this afternoon with full state honours. He passed away while undergoing treatment for liver cirrhosis at a private hospital in Gurugram last night. A celebrated figure in the Odia film industry, 66-year-old Uttam Mohanty starred in 135 Odia films, leaving an indelible mark on regional cinema. His contributions extended beyond Odisha, with appearances in 30 Bengali films and a Hindi movie, Naya Zahar. He was known for his versatility and played a wide range of roles that resonated with audiences across generations.

 

President Droupadi Murmu has deeply condoled the death of Uttam Mohanty, saying he was an idol to all, and his demise has caused an irreparable loss to the Odia film industry. Chief Minister of Odisha Mohan Charan Majhi, Union Minister Jual Oram, BJD President Naveen Patnaik, and several other leaders and film stars have also condoled the death of the legendary actor.
