The Nyishi Tribe of Arunachal Pradesh is celebrating its Longte festival today. The Longte is one of the oldest and agriculturally significant festivals of the Nyishi tribe and is a harbinger of new season after which sowing of seeds begins on cultivated fields. This festival also commemorates the separation of human being from evil forces by a barricade that took place from time immemorial.
Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt. General K.T. Parnaik (Retd) has conveyed warm greetings to the people of the State on the occasion. The Governor said that the Longte Festival emphasizes the wellness of human beings and the fertility and multiplication of animals and domestic livestock in the days ahead. He said, it is also observed for the invocation of benevolent spirits for peace, richness and progress of mankind.
