Noted Carnatic Musician K G Jayan passed away at Tripunithura in Kochi early this morning. He was 90. Known for his devotional songs, Jayan composed more than 1000 songs and has been the music director for a few Malayalam and Tamil films. He, along with his twin brother, late KG Vijayan was known in the world of South Indian music as Jaya-Vijaya brothers.

A Padmasree recepient, Jayan was also awarded the Kerala Sangeetha Akademi and the Harivarasanam Awards. Malayalam actor Manoj K Jayan is his younger son.
