North-East India has potential to be centre of South-East Asia’s development: Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal

Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today said that North-East India has the potential to be the centre of South-East Asia’s development in the coming years. Addressing a press conference on Empowering the North East – Transformational Decade Towards Atmanirbhar Bharat in New Delhi, Mr Sonowal said that North-East India has a focal role in the Government’s Act East Policy which has transformed the region. Highlighting the Government’s ground-level approach, the Minister added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has visited the North-East more than 60 times in the past 10 years, while Central Ministers have visited the region every 15 days. He added that this has brought peace and stability in the area along with empowering the people. Mr Sonowal said that the Northeast will be a key player in realizing the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision and making India Atmanirbhar.

 

The Minister also paid his tributes to social reformer and architect of the Indian Constitution, Bharat Ratna Dr. BR Ambedkar on his 69th death anniversary, observed today as the Mahaparinirvan Diwas.
