A 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck Sindhupalchok at 2:51 am on Friday, with tremors felt in Kathmandu Valley and surrounding areas. According to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre, the epicentre was at Bhairav Kunda in the Sindhupalchok district.
A landslide occurred in Dugunagadhi in Bhotekoshi of Bamati province. The wall of a police post in Kodari developed cracks. Two people were injured in Kathmandu while fleeing in panic after the earthquake, and an inmate in Sindhupalchok jail broke his arm while trying to escape in panic in the early morning today.
Security teams from the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police have been deployed to monitor the situation. Authorities have urged locals to take precautions against potential dry landslides and falling rocks.
