No fee is to be charged for registration of patients for deceased donor organ transplantation, says govt

The government said that no fee is to be charged for the registration of patients for deceased donor organ transplantation. In a reply in the Lok Sabha, Union Health and Family Welfare minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya said that provision has now been made that a person of any age could be registered for receiving deceased donor organ transplantation. He further said that the government has decided to do away with the need for domicile registration in states and union territories to promote organ transplantation. The minister said that as per the data of the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization, 11 thousand 705 kidney and nearly four thousand liver transplants have been done last year.
