NHRC has taken suo motu cognizance of the reported no treatment for 27 hours to a woman lying on the floor in labour pain at Jamshedpur MGM hospital resulting in the death of the baby in the mother’s womb. It has issued notice to the Jharkhand government for a detailed report within two weeks.  The report is also expected to include the status of health of the victim woman and the availability of beds as well as other facilities in the government hospitals in the State. The report should also mention if any compensation has been paid to the aggrieved family by the authorities.

NHRC has also taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that an attempt to rape and murder a woman escalated into a situation of communal tension in the Jainoor town of Telangana on the 4th of this month. The Commission has issued notices to the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police, Telangana calling for a detailed report on the matter within two weeks.
