The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has given a notice to the Chief Secretary of the Maharashtra Government over the reported deaths of several patients at two state-run hospitals in Nanded and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar.
The NHRC has demanded a detailed report on the matter within four weeks. The report should include the status of the hospital infrastructure along with the requisite and present strength of doctors, nurses, and other staff. The report should also mention the status of the medicines and diagnostic facilities available for the patients.
The NHRC has also asked for information about the action taken against the responsible public servants as well as the status of the relief and rehabilitation provided to the aggrieved families. It also asked for proposed steps to be taken by the government for the prevention of such incidents in the future.
