The National Highways Authority of India, NHAI is starting a pilot project to address the challenge of stray cattle on National Highways for enhancing road safety.
It will provide cattle shelters strategically located along the highways to serve as safe spaces for stray cattle and help in avoiding animal-related accidents.
The NHAI has signed an MoU with a company in this regard. It will setup first-aid centres and hospitals to cater 50 km on each side for timely medical care and also deploy cattle ambulances.
The initiative will be implemented on various National highways crisscrossing Punjab. Traffic Advisor to Punjab Government, Dr. Navdeep Asija welcomed the step calling it a well thought step by the NHAI, especially in the areas where the forest cover has drastically decreased near the National Highways.
