The 22nd Divya Kala Mela began today at the India Gate in New Delhi. The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, under the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is organizing the fair to showcase the talent, creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of the disabled artisans, entrepreneurs and artists. More than 100 artists are exhibiting their projects and skills in the fair.
In the inaugural session, Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Dr Virendra Kumar said that the government is committed to the empowerment of the Divyangjan. He also informed that Divya Kala Mela initiative has provided a unique platform for divyangjans for their economic empowerment. He said they are not only earning but also providing employment to others. Mr. Kumar expressed satisfaction that these Melas have generated sales worth over 14 crore rupees for the Divyang artisans and entrepreneurs. The Minister said that the government is also providing loans through various schemes which are empowering the Divyangjans.
