Nepal: Two largest parties in the country aiming to form new government

The two largest parties in the Federal Parliament of Nepal, the Nepali Congress and the CPN (UML) have agreed to share the power equation, aiming to form a new government under the leadership of UML Chair KP Sharma Oli. A series of political meetings are taking place at party offices and the residences of prominent political leaders to decide their course of action regarding changes in alliances. More from our correspondent:

On July 2, Prime Minister of Nepal Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ called on President Ramchandra Paudel. The Prime Minister and the CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair visited the Head of State. On this occasion, matters relating to the country’s latest political developments were discussed. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has decided not to resign from his post and face a floor test in parliament for the fifth time in a row. The pact, finalised between NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba and UML Chairman KP Oli, outlines the ministerial division, provincial leadership roles, and a rotation for the prime ministerial position. Under the agreement that is expected to be finalised, UML Chairman Oli will initially lead the government for the first half of the remaining term of the current parliament. The Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP), which is part of PM Prachanda’s present alliance, is not participating in the new ruling alliance led by the Nepali Congress and the CPN (UML).
