Nepal has earned 4.75 billion Nepali rupees from Carbon Trading. Nepal had earned 2.87 million US dollars from carbon trading in the last fiscal year. The Alternative Energy Promotion Centre has earned income from 8 carbon trading projects since 2011.
On the 28th anniversary of APEC, organised in Kathmandu, Nepal’s Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, Dipak Khadka, said the government would provide possible support for promoting the renewable energy sector. The Energy Minister underlined that the role of the centre is important to fulfil the government’s goal of generating 28,500 megawatts of electricity by the year 2035.
The Executive Director of APEC, Nabaraj Dhakal, shared that the centre has constructed 40,253 kilowatts of micro and small-scale hydropower projects so far, as well as provided renewal energy service to 3.650 million households in the country. On the occasion, individuals and organisations working for the development of renewable energy were honoured.
