Nepal Police arrest medical entrepreneur, political activist Durga Prasai

Nepal Police have arrested medical entrepreneur and political activist Durga Prasai. He had been on the run since violent protests at Tinkune on March 28, where two people were killed, buildings were torched, and private property was damaged. Police said he was arrested in Bhadrapur, Jhapa and brought to Kathmandu for investigation. Along with Durga Prasai, his associate Dipak Khadka was also been arrested.

According to Nepal police, Prasai and Khadka have been arrested on the charge of committing crimes against the State and organised crime by being involved in the violent demonstrations held by the pro-monarchists at Tinkune of Kathmandu on March 28.

Prasai is the founder of B&C Medical College and Hospital and also established the Eastern Cancer Hospital in Birtamod in Jhapa, investing approximately NPR 6 billion. Prasai is an active political figure, previously associated with the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist). From 2023, separating from CPN (UML), he led campaigns advocating for the restoration of the constitutional monarchy and the declaration of Nepal as a Hindu state. These movements have sparked both support and controversy across the nation.
