Nepal celebrates Janmashtami, Thousands of devotees throng in Patan Krishna Temple of Lalitpur and Basantpur Krishna Temple of Kathmandu

Devotees thronged the ancient Krishna Temple in Lalitpur today on the birth anniversary of Krishna, incarnation of Lord Vishnu celebrated as Janmashtami in Nepal. Annually there is a huge festival in the Patan Durbar Square. Thousands of devotees visit Krishna Temple on the occasion of Janmashtami, which lies within the premises of the former Royal Palace which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Girls and women dressed as Radha and kids dressed as Krishna added to the festive look. Dance performance and kirtan is ongoing on in the premises. 

The Krishna temple is a Shikhara-Style temple in Patan which was built in 1667 during the reign of King Siddhi Narasimha Malla. It is one of the most revered Krishna temples in Nepal. This 17th Century temple that was damaged during 2015 earthquake was opened for the public after renovation in 2018. Devotees also offered their prayers in Krishna Temple in Basantpur Durbar Square in Kathmandu Valley.
