Nepal celebrates 101st birth anniversary of Jan-Andolan leader Krishna Prasad Bhattarai

Nepal celebrates the 101st birth anniversary of the founding leader of the Nepali Congress (NC), Krishna Prasad Bhattarai. He is popularly known as Kisunji in the political sphere. Bhattarai twice served as the Prime Minister of Nepal, once heading the interim government from 19 April 1990 to 26 May 1991, and then as elected Prime Minister from 31 May 1999 to 22 March 2000.

Kisunji was one of the main leaders of Jan-Andolan, after which Nepal moved from an absolute monarchy to a democratic multi-party system. Bhattarai was imprisoned when BP Koirala and Ganesh Man Singh were released from Sundarijal jail after signing the documents prepared by the then government.

The ruling party Nepali Congress and its sister organisations commemorate Saint leader Bhattarai’s anniversary by organizing several programmes on Monday. On the occasion of Kisunji’s birth centenary year, the chairman of ‘Sant Neta Krishna Prasad Bhattarai Kendra’ Lokesh Dhakal emphasised on teachings of Saint leader Bhattarai in promoting the politics of integrity.
