The ongoing Nepal-Bharat Rang Mahotsav is a delight for theatre lovers in Kathmandu Valley. The Rang Mahotsav features six plays that started on 5 February and will run until 12 February 2025 at the Nepal Cultural Corporation Auditorium in Jamal. It is jointly organised by India and Nepal and was inaugurated by the Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation of Nepal, Badri Prasad Pandey. On the occasion, Minister Pandey emphasised that strong cultural and people-to-people ties underscore the India-Nepal bilateral relationship.
Nepal Academy of Music and Drama and India’s National School of Drama collaborated to bring in six dramas in Rang Mahotsav, in which Nepali dramas like Gachchami, Katha Kasturi, and Joon will be presented on the first three days, followed by three Hindi dramas on the rest of the three days. The ambassador of India to Nepal, Naveen Shrivastav, emphasised that this festival will strengthen the ongoing cultural exchanges between India and Nepal and pave the way for further institutional collaborations. Additional Secretary of the Minister of Culture Ranjana Chopra expressed her pleasure in the organisation of Rang Mahotsav and stressed that theatre plays a huge role in strengthening the shared cultural heritage of India and Nepal.
In the inaugural session, the Registrar of NSD, Pradeep Mohanty, informed that Rang Mahotsav started in 1999 by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India; it started across borders in Sri Lanka and Nepal by the National School of Drama as a celebration of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
