NEP 2020 focuses on the promotion of all Indian languages including regional languages: Govt in RS

The Government is encouraging regional dialects and languages through literary programmes under the umbrella of Sahitya Akademi. Minister of Culture G Kishan Reddy said this in a written reply in Rajya Sabha today.

He informed that Sahitya Akademi organizes literary programmes for the promotion of several northeastern tribal languages including Mizo, Garo, Lepcha, Khasi, and Jaintia. The Minister said that his Ministry is also promoting the translation of books from regional languages into English which would help translations into other linguistic communities. He further said that in addition, the Central Government through National Education Policy, 2020 is focusing on the promotion of all Indian languages including regional languages. This policy provides the medium of instruction in local language up to at least class five, and preferably up to class eight.
