NEP 2020 emphasises on integration of vocational training and skill development into curriculum, as well as use of technology in education: Director, NIT S.K Patra

Director of National Institute of Technology (NIT) S.K. Patra on Tuesday said that one of the fundamental difference in the New Education Policy-2020 as compared to the erstwhile education policy is that new one offers credit transfer to students which did not exist in the past.

Addressing a press conference in Agartala as a prelude to the third anniversary of NEP-2020 to be celebrated on 29th of this month, Mr. Patra said that interested students can do multiple course at different places at the same time. He said that students who are bright in studies can do one full-time course from one institution and simultaneously he or she can enroll for a correspondence course from another institution. After completing different courses, the student can even take admission in one institute and get a degree, he added. Earlier, however, only with the virtue of a course taken at the university the student could get the degree certificate. But now, there has been lot of flexibility and multi-variety which enables students to do different course at the same time.

Mr. Patra said that there was a need to revamp the education policy as it was 35 years old. He further said that with NEP-2020, NIT Agartala aims to offer equal access to quality education for all students, regardless of their socioeconomic background. The NEP 2020, also emphasises on the integration of vocational training and skill development into the curriculum, as well as the use of technology in education.
