The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has rationalized the content of some textbooks including Social Science (Social and Political Life) for classes 6 to 8 and Political Science for classes 9 to 12. In a written reply in Rajya Sabha, Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Annapurna Devi said that changes have been made in NCERT textbooks by constituting a Committee of Experts in the respective subject areas.

These Committees, comprising NCERT faculty members, in consultation with practicing teachers from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and experts, analyzed the textbooks across subjects and classes to rationalise the content. Specific criteria were also developed for the rationalization of content load. Clarifications on some of the issues raised in various quarters regarding the rationalization of textbooks are already placed on the NCERT website https://ncert.nic.in/rationalisation-textbook.php.
