In Venezuela, protests spread across the country after the electoral authority officially declared Nicolas Maduro the winner of the Presidential Election. Security forces have fired tear gas and rubber bullets at protesters. According to media reports, thousands of people descended on central Caracas last evening. A heavy military and police presence was on the streets of Caracas with the aim of trying to disperse protesters and prevent them from approaching the presidential palace. Meanwhile, Maduro’s campaign manager Jorge Rodriguez accused the opposition of stoking violence and called on the president’s supporters to march.
