In a historic development, the Nagaland Government and the British High Commission to India have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU to reserve five annual slots in the prestigious Chevening Scholarship programme exclusively for candidates from the state. The MoU was signed by Abu Metha, Advisor to the Chief Minister of Nagaland and Chairman of the Investment & Development Authority of Nagaland, IDAN, and Dr Andrew Fleming, British Deputy High Commissioner in Kolkata, at the Chief Minister’s official residence.
The signing ceremony was attended by Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and British High Commissioner to India, Linda Cameron. The Chevening Scholarship programme, a flagship initiative of the UK Government, is a globally recognized fellowship designed to nurture exceptional individuals with leadership potential. This collaboration will provide full funding for a one-year master’s degree at any UK university, offering scholars advanced knowledge and skills in their chosen fields. With part-funding support from the Government of Nagaland, this initiative will offer an unprecedented opportunity for young Naga professionals to enhance their skills and join a worldwide network of changemakers.
The application process for the scholarship will begin in mid-2025. Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio expressed his gratitude to the British High Commission for providing this incredible opportunity to Naga youth.
