Nagaland celebrates 77th Independence Day

Nagaland joined the rest of the nation in celebrating the 77th Independence Day on 15th August 2023. In the state-level celebrations at Civil Secretariat Plaza Kohima, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio hoisted the tricolour and took Salute.

In his address, the Chief Minister said the Naga Political issue remains the top priority of his government, and reassured that every possible effort is been made to the cause. He said the political affairs committee will continue to hold serious consultations with all stakeholders for an early solution. He recalled the joint accordant signed between the NSCN (IM) and Naga National Political Groups last year, and said both sides have reiterated their unconditional commitment to collaborate for the resolution of the Naga Political issue with the central government.

The Chief Minister sought an even greater sense of urgency from all Naga political groups and other stakeholders, as well as the government of India for a consensus on any unresolved issue, so as to bring about an inclusive, honourable and acceptable solution without any further delay.

The Chief Minister resolved to give a further impetus to the war on drugs. He said the government is taking measures to ensure strict enforcement of preventive measures jointly by the major stakeholders, including churches, village councils and departments concerned to eradicate the menace of drug abuse.
