In Karnataka, mustering and related preparations are underway for the Assembly by-elections to be held tomorrow in Channapatna, Shiggaon, and Sandur. A keen contest is expected in Channapatna between Nikhil Kumaraswamy, the son of Union Minister and JD(S) senior leader H.D. Kumaraswamy, and Congress candidate C.P. Yogeshwar, who quit the BJP to join the Congress. In Shiggaon, BJP Member of Parliament Basavaraj Bommai’s son Bharath Bommai is pitted against Congress candidate Yasir Ahmed Khan Pathan. In the Sandur by-election, Member of Parliament E. Tukaram of Congress was the sitting MLA from the constituency, and the party has now given a ticket to his wife, Annapoorna, to contest the seat. There are 2,36,100 voters in Sandur, and out of 253 polling booths, webcasting will be done in 127 booths. In Shiggaon, 2,37,669 voters will cast their votes in 196 polling stations, and webcasting will be done in 121 booths. In Channapatna, there are 2,32,949 registered voters across 276 polling booths, and webcasting will be done in all 276 booths.
