Mumbai plays a crucial role in India’s path to Atmanirbharata: Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal

Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal today said that Mumbai plays a crucial role in India’s path to Atmanirbharata, or self-reliance. The minister inaugurated various projects of the Mumbai Port Authority, including the Third Chemical Berth at Pir Pau and the laying of the foundation stone for the Shore Protection and Reclamation Project at Jawahar Dweep.

The Mumbai Port Authority also signed several Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) in areas including emission management, decarbonization, digitization, and safety in port and shipping operations. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sonowal opined that these projects and MOUs indicate that the Mumbai Port Authority has transformed itself in accordance with the changing demands of the industry.

He added that India is full of possibilities, power, and capacity and is progressing on the path to becoming one of the most powerful maritime nations in the world. He also published a brochure on tourism initiatives by the Mumbai Port. Earlier, on the occasion of National Space Day, all the ships in Mumbai Harbour paid tribute to India’s space scientists by sounding their horns.
