The Ashura-e-Muharram is being observed with due reverence and solemnity in various parts of Telangana, especially in Hyderabad today, marking the martyrdom of Prophet Muhammad’s grandson, Hazrat Imam Hussain and his companions. Their martyrdom is remembered for upholding righteousness and justice in Karbala for centuries. Amidst tight security arrangements, the traditional processions taken out at different parts of the Twin Cities of Secunderabad and Hyderabad will culminate later this afternoon. 

 

AIR Correspondent said that amidst tight security arrangements, the stage was all set for the Bibi ka Alam procession to be taken out from Bibi ka Alawa in Dabeerpura of Old City Hyderabad later this afternoon, marking the tenth day of Muharram month of the Hijri calendar. The procession will cover a distance of nine kilometres and pass through Yakutpura Road, Etebar Chowk, the historic Charminar, and Mir Alam Mandi among others before culminating at Chaderghat. Dozens of processions from various parts of the city will merge into the main procession. Along the traditional processions, mourners march while whipping themselves with sharp objects. People line up on the route to have a glimpse of the procession and to offer Dhatti to the Bibi ka Alam. The Hyderabad police have stepped up security arrangements for the smooth conduct of the procession. Barricades and barbed wire have been placed to avoid public movement when the Alam, dated back to the Qutb Shahi period, is taken along its designated route.
