Mother’s Day is being celebrated across the world today. It is celebrated on second Sunday of May every year. Mother’s Day holds immense significance as it celebrates their existence, to honour and express gratitude for the hardships they bear and things they do.
In Nagaland, Mother’s Day is celebrated with thanksgiving and gratitude, with people of all age groups express their love, respects and honour towards mothers, by showering gifts such as flowers, cards, chocolates, or personalised items and also offer prayers to Almighty for the good health and longevity for the mothers.
Special Mother’s Day services are also being observed in Churches across the state in dedication to Mothers. Mother’s Day was first celebrated in 1908, when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother at St Andrew’s Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia in United States.
Wishing all mothers on Mother’s Day, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said motherhood is a gift from God which is rooted in compassion, nurturing and endless sacrifices making the home and hearth a place of warmth and blessings. Stating that mothers are the sustaining force for the family and society, Rio said we honour all mothers and those who play the role of a mother.
