Minister of State for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs V. Muraleedharan paid an official visit to the State of Kuwait from August 23 to 24, 2023. This was the first Ministerial visit from the Indian side to Kuwait in the last 2 years.
During his visit, Mr Muraleedharan held meetings with Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister of Kuwait Sheikh Talal Khalid Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, as well as the Foreign Minister Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. Additional discussions were held with Deputy Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah. The talks aimed to bolster the already strong bilateral ties and explore avenues for collaboration across various sectors.
A focal point of the discussions was the determination on both sides to enhance the economic partnership. Both delegations expressed keen interest in diversifying bilateral trade and fostering increased bilateral investments. The Minister lauded the efforts of the Kuwaiti government in ensuring the welfare of the substantial Indian community in Kuwait. The talks also encompassed deliberations on issues affecting the Indian community. Mr Muraleedharan also participated in a gathering of more than 300 Indian community members representing diverse professional fields. He commended the contributions of the Indian community to Kuwait's development and the strengthening of bilateral relations. The Minister also met with various professional groups, and attended a business event organized by the Indian Business and Professional Council in Kuwait.
In a symbolic gesture, the visiting Minister inaugurated the "Shilaphalakam" at the Indian Embassy premises. This monument pays homage to the sacrifices made by Indian freedom fighters during the struggle for independence.
