Union Minister of State for Education Dr Subhas Sarkar today attended the launch programme of the PM Vishwakarma scheme at Chintan Bhawan of Gangtok in Sikkim. Wishing Prime Minister Narendra Modi his birthday on 17th September 2023, Dr Sarkar said that following the footsteps of the divine architect Vishwakarma, the Prime Minister is also building Naya Bharat by sharing a commitment to societal betterment, innovation, and skill development. He called the Prime Minister an architect of Aadhunik Bharat, leading the country towards a Viksit Bharat.
Dr Sarkar said that the PM Vishwakarma Scheme is a testament to the commitment towards skilled artisans and an acknowledgment that they are the torchbearers of our rich cultural heritage and keepers of our traditions. He said that the visionary initiative is not merely about preserving the rich heritage of artisanal skills, it's about propelling artisans and craftspeople onto the global stage. He said the scheme will enable a giant leap towards making our artisans not just vocal, but truly global.
Listing key benefits of the PM Vishwakarma Scheme in terms of financial support, skill training, and access to markets, Dr Sarkar also highlighted traditional crafts of Sikkim and the region such as weaving, Thangka paintings, and Choktse tables.
MLAs YT Lepcha and Sonam Tshering Venchungpa; officials from NHPC and Sikkim’s commerce and industries, and skill development departments were also present, among others.
